Evangeline Parish weekly softball roundup
The following are game summaries for softball games played this past week by the parish softball teams.
Mamou vs.
Lake Arthur
The Mamou Lady Demons traveled to Lake Arthur on Monday to face off against the Lady Tigers in district 4-2A battle. The Lady Demons came into the game one game ahead of Kinder in the race for the district championship. Mamou needed a big game to remain in first place. The Lady Demons did just that, putting away Lake Arthur 10-1. Mamou improves to 12-8 on the year and 8-1 in district play with the win.
The Lady Demons jumped out to an early 2-0 lead at the end of the first inning. Neither team could put up points in the second inning. Mamou extended their lead by plating two runs each in the third and fourth innings. The Lady Demons put the game out of reach in the top of the fifth, by exploding for four runs. The Lady Tigers managed their only run in the bottom of the inning.
Maggie Soileau collected the win on the hill for Mamou. Soileau pitched a complete game, giving up only one run on four hits. Soileau had an incredible 13 strike outs, while walking only one.
Amber Manuel and Madison Trahan were three for five at the plate to lead all Lady Demon hitters. Manuel was a home run away from the cycle and scored three runs. Trahan also scored three runs and had two runs batted in. Courtnie Deshotel, Lauren Soileau and Maggie Soileau each added two hits apiece.
Pine Prairie vs.
Ville Platte
Going into Tuesday’s game against the Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs, the Pine Prairie Lady Panthers were looking to stay one game out of first place in district 5-3A. Pine Prairie trailed league leader Port Barre by one game and needed the win to stay on pace. The Lady Panthers did that and more, running away from Ville Platte by the score of 25-0. Pine Prairie scored 12 runs in the first inning, 11 in the second and two in the third to complete the run rule victory. Tori Johnson, Tanzi Leger, and Brandy Manuel combined on the mound to shut out Ville Platte. The trio combined for a no hitter. The Lady Bulldogs only managed two base runners all game.
Leading the way at the plate for the Lady Panthers was Shaina Boutte. Boutte was two for three with a double. Tori Johnson was one for three with a triple. With the win, Pine Prairie is now 14-5 on the year and 7-1 in district play.
Mamou vs.
Hackberry
Tuesday afternoon, the Mamou Lady Demons took a break from district action to host the Hackberry Lady
Mustangs. The Lady Demons scored three runs in the bottom of the third to overcome a 5-3 deficit and take a 6-5 win. Mamou increases their record to 13-8 with the victory.
The Lady Demons held Hackberry scoreless in the top of the first. In the bottom of the inning, Mamou took an early lead, plating two runs. The Lady Demons stretched their lead to 3-0 by scoring a lone run in the bottom of the second.
Hackberry took control of the game in the top of the third inning. The Lady Mustangs scored five runs to go up 5-3. Mamou answered right back in the bottom of the inning. The Lady Demons added three runs to go back up by one 6-5.
Neither team was able to plate runs for the rest of the game, as both pitchers shut down the opponent’s offense.
Amber Manuel picked up the win on the hill, throwing a completed game. Manuel gave up five runs on four hits, struck out eleven and walked seven in the contest. Manuel also led all hitters, going four for four with a run scored. Kelsie Mayeaux was three for three with two runs batted in. Maggie Soileau went three for four with two runs scored.
