Evangeline Parish weekly baseball round up

The following are game summaries for baseball games played this past week by the parish baseball teams.

Sacred Heart
vs. Iota

On Saturday, the Sacred Heart Trojans stepped out of district play to face off against the Iota Bulldogs at Aswell-Cappell field. Sacred Heart came into the game riding a 17 game win streak. The Trojans had not lost since March 6, so it would stand to reason that it would take a special effort to take down Sacred Heart. What no one knew such an effort exsisted, as the Bulldogs need 10 innings to slay the Trojans in a 3-2 upset.
In what would be a pitching duel, Sacred Heart and Iota both had trouble pushing runs across the plate. The Bulldogs did not score until the top of the third inning, when they were able to put two runs on the scoreboard. The Trojans took a little longer to add runs to the book, not scoring until the bottom of the fifth inning. In that inning Sacred Heart tied the game when Keaton Tate and Jacob L. Lafleur both touched home plate.
The rest of the game remained quiet for both squads. Each team’s pitching staffs battled to keep the other team off of the scoreboard. That battle continued for the next four innings, as neither squad could muster much of an offensive threat. It wasn’t until the top of the 10th inning before Iota was able to gain the advantage, scoring a single run to take the 3-2 lead. The Trojans were sent down in order in the bottom of the 10th to end the game.
Three Sacred Heart pitchers took to the mound against the Bulldogs. Caleb Soileau went eight and two-thirds innings, giving up two runs on four hits, while striking out three. Josh LaHaye threw two-thirds of an inning, allowing one run on one hit. Phillip Vidrine took to the hill for two-thirds of an inning, only allowing one hit and striking out one.
At the plate, Keaton Tate went two for three and scored a run. Garrick Fontenot was one for three. With the loss, the Trojans are now 21-3 on the year.
