VP Rotary Club welcomes recent guests
April 7, Meeting
During the April 7, meeting of the The Ville Platte Rotary Club, Rotarian Bob Manuel invited Missy Grimmett with the Louisiana Workforce Commission to address the members. She has 29 years experience in the job/workforce training field. Her job is helping people find work and helping businesses find good employees. She compared her job to a “matching game” in pairing skilled employees to businesses in need. She loves her job and as a result, she gets to meet a lot of people and match them with jobs. Grimmett said her office works with local sheriff’s offices, community action offices and Louisiana Rehab Services to help place employees in good jobs. She noted the Workforce Investment and Opportunity Act was signed into law on July 1, of last year and takes effect beginning July 1, 2015. She said her primary focus is to work with employers in finding the skilled workers they need. Grimmett added that the fields most in need are construction, mining, manufacturing and health care. She also noted there is a lot of growth in the information technology (IT) industry in the Lafayette area.
