Parish fitness meet team competes at state

The Evangeline Parish elementary fitness meet team competed at the state competition this past Saturday in Baton Rouge at the Bernie Moore Indoor Track Facility on the campus of LSU. The team participated in a number of events throughout the day and placed fourth overall in the state.
Ville Platte High’s Kayden Coward was named the overall individual state champion, scoring a whopping 707 total points. She is only the ninth girl in the 23 year history of the competition to score over 700 points. Coward placed second in the standing long jump, and third in the sit and reach and the 600 yard run.
Also placing in individual competition was Ville Platte High’s Darrell Gilbeaux who came out second in the 600 yard run.
The team consisted of Coward, Guilbeaux, Hanna Monier. and Jerez Edwards all Ville Platte High students. Also participating was Kendrilyn Fontenot a Ville Platte Lower student, and Asia George a student at Chicot Elementary student.
