Parish athletes earn spots at state track meet

Four parish athletes have qualified for the LHSAA State Track and Field Meet to take place this coming Thursday and Friday in Baton Rouge. The meet will be held at Bernie Moore Track on the LSU campus. These athletes competed in their respective regional meets last week and placed high enough to put themselves into the state meet.
Qualifying in class 3A for Ville Platte High was Antoinette Joseph. Joseph will represent the Lady Bulldogs in the 100 meter hurdles. She posted a time of 16.51 seconds at the regional meet. This time represents the fifth fastest time going into state competition. Joseph will run on Saturday.
Also in class 3A, Pine Prairie’s Dylan Doucet qualified and will also participate on Saturday. Doucet will represent the Panthers in the javelin competition. At the regional meet, Doucet heaved the javelin 182 feet and six inches. This distance puts Doucet as the number three seeded thrower at the state meet.
In class 2A, Mamou High’s Kiajah Wilson advances to the state meet in the 800 meter run. Wilson finished in a time of 2:29.30. This outstanding performance gives her the second fastest time coming into the state meet.
Sacred Heart’s Moira Parks will represent the Lady Trojans in class 1A at the state meet. Parks will participate in the long jump. She leaped a distance of 14 feet and six inches at regionals, but has jumped farther, including a 16 foot effort at district.
