Joseph Nellwood Ortego

Funeral services with military presentation were held for Joseph Nellwood Ortego, 81, of Pine Prairie, at the Ardoin’s Funeral Home Chapel in Ville Platte at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 19.
A loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, Mr. Ortego died Sunday, May 17, 2015, at his residence. He was a hardworking family man who retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years in the service. Once retired, he then worked as a roustabout in the oil field industry and raised cattle.
Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Shirlene West Ortego of Pine Prairie; four sons, Randy Ortego and his wife, Rhonda, of Haughton and Darrell Ortego and his wife, Alicia, Danny Ortego and his wife, Donna, and Todd Ortego and his wife, Amanda, all of Pine Prairie; two brothers, Harvey Ortego and his wife, Irene, and Jimmy Ortego and his wife, Sue, all of Eunice. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his 14 grandchildren, Megan, Thomas, Andrew, Josh, Nathan, Courtland, Cassie, Latisha, Haley, Nicholas, Courtney, Deanna, Colby and Tequila; and his nine great-grandchildren.
