Magnolia Garden Club selects Garden of the Month/Civic Pride winner for month of May
The Garden of the Month and Civic Pride Award of Merit for May was selected by a committee from the Magnolia Garden Club. The recipient of the Garden of the Month honor was the home of Charles and Gwen Bordelon and the Civic Pride Award was presented to Ville Platte City Hall. The Bordelon residence (first two photos) features a mailbox flower bed filled with colorful flowers, including society garlic, lantana and striped grass. Along the driveway is a bed with a fountain centerpiece surrounded by gardenias, lantana, striped grass and periwinkles. Other garden accessories were noted in the bed. A curved flower bed extends along the front of the house. It features boxwoods, lorepetalum, day lilies, lantana periwinkles and agapanthus framed by a large crep myrtle. At city hall (second two photos, many red knockout roses give a welcome to the building. Red roses and Indian hawthorn anchor the Magnolia Garden Club’s Blue Star Memorial honoring American veterans. Green liriope edges this bed. A flower bed parallel to the side street showcases red roses and green vinca ground cover. The Allen Ortego Park across the street has many colorful flowers, including day lilies, black-eyed susans and various shrubs leading the eye to the fountain in the center of the park. The trees planted along Main Street are attractive at this time of the year, especially the lovely crepe myrtle blooms. (Photos submitted)
