Johnson qualifies for Junior PGA Championship

Julia Johnson, fresh off of her LHSAA state championship and a Tournament of Champions win, has now qualified to play in the Junior PGA Championship to be held at Miramont Country Club in Texas on August 6-8.
The winner of this tournament will earn an exemption into a PGA tour event. Highlights of the tournament will be shown on the Golf Channel.
Johnson shot 69-68 (-7) in the qualifying tournament played in Natchez, Mississippi at Bea Pre Country Club on June 8-9. Day one was a tremendous day for Johnson. She hit 16 of 18 green and recorded 15 pars and three birdies.
After the first day Johnson owned a 10 stroke lead.
On Sunday, Johnson shot 31 on the back nine, which is her career low on any nine holes. This back nine score came after Johnson was one over on the front nine.
The eighteenth hole illustrated how Johnson was spot on during the last nine holes. Johnson finished the 520 yard final hole with a wedge shot to 5 feet above the cup and made the slick downhill putt for her fifth birdie on the back nine.
The two day total of seven under was Johnson’s lowest two day total. In Johnson’s last three competitive rounds, where she has shot 64, 69 and 68.
Johnson’s next action will be on June 20-23, where she will be playing in a lady amateur event in Lake Charles. On July 1-3, Julia will participate in an AJGA event at the Bluffs. On July 6-8 she will be at the Jordan Spieth AJGA in Austin Texas.
