TURKEY CREEK-- During the Turkey Creek Village Council’s June 18 meeting, the board heard a presentation by engineer Adam Janet on the recent completion of the Highway 167 Crossing Sewer Project.
Janet showed the council samples of pipe and demonstrated the heavier schedule 10 drainage pipe that was installed near the manholes and compared it to a sample of the smaller and thinner preexisting pipe. He also went on to demonstrate the increased wall thickness of the pipe that was installed further down the drainage line.
Fusible PVC pipe was used for under-roadway use and according to Engineer Janet, “We do not think the council will see a problem with sewer drainage in this particular area for the foreseeable future.”
Janet presented to the council camera footage of the inside of the pipes provided to the town free of charge by the Louisiana Rural Water Association. This footage showed the actual water flow issues from inside the pipe as being fully resolved.
There was also a report on the outfitting of the new police unit with radio, decals and window tinting. During a previous meeting, it was proposed that the total cost of outfitting the new car would be $5,921.50. At that time, the board was asked to select a second opinion on the window tinting, decals, and radio outfitting.
At Thursday’s meeting, new estimates were given and the total cost amounts to $5,414.75, which is a total savings to the town of $506.75.
Chief Robert Leggett also proposed the hiring of four new part-time officers for the town.
“So far, only two candidates are fully qualified officers,” Leggett said. “The other two we selected have more training to complete.”
After discussion, the board agreed to hire one of the two fully-qualified candidates and none of the other applicants. More fully-qualified applicants will be considered for hire once the new police car work is completed.
