Man dies after canoe tips over

An area man lost his life after his canoe capsized in Evangeline Parish.
Wildlife and Fisheries agents say that 58-year-old Lawrence Fontenot of St. Landry was frogging in Bayou Marron near Chataignier Monday morning with his brother-in-law, when the canoe capsized.
Investigators say Fontenot’s body was recovered later in the day. His brother-in-law survived.
Wildlife and Fisheries agents say the incident is still under investigation.
Also assisting in the search were the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Department and Mamou Fire Department Search and Rescue.
