Ville Platte man found guilty of possessing, receiving child porn

Gazette Staff Report

U.S. Attorney Stephaine Finley said on Tuesday that a federal jury found a Ville Platte man guilty Tuesday of possessing and receiving child porn.
The jury found Bradley Smith, 60, guilty of two counts of possession of child porn and three counts of receiving child porn after deliberating for 40 minutes, Finley said.
Evidence presented during the trial shows law enforcement found Smith used file sharing software to download child porn in 2012, Finley said. A search of Smith’s home on Sept. 24, 2012, uncovered 40 movies and 1,100 pictures of child porn.
Sentencing is set for Sept. 24. Smith faces up to 10 years in prison for each count of possession of child porn and between five and 20 years for each count of receiving child porn. Finley said. He also faces up to five years supervised release and a $250,000 fine.
