Heritage Manor News: Taking on too much

Being an activity professional means being a people person. Being compassionate, cooperative, empathetic, enthusiastic, encouraging and appreciative of others. It also means putting someone else’s needs before your own. It means saying no is difficult and makes you feel guilty if you don’t give others your time. Taking on too much can affect one’s ability to use time effeciantly and cause stress. Getting more done in less time is an expectation in today’s workplaces. Days consist of constant interruptions, switching tasks, planning, organizing and juggling the needs of residents, staff and family members. Calendar preparations, documentation and communication are all a big part of our day. Respecting the needs of others is a crucial skill that activity professionals must possess. The following helps on a stressful day: Take time to work. It is the price of success. Take time to think. It is the source of power. Take time to play. It is the secret of perpetual youth. Take time to read. It is the fountain of wisdom. Take time to be friendly. It is the road to happiness. Take time to love and be loved. It is the nourishment of the soul. Take time to share. It is too short of a life to be selfish. Take time to laugh. It is the music of the heart. Take time to dream. It is like hitching a wagon to a star.
