Time to fill up

For the second year in a row Ville Platte is hosting the United Way Stuff the Bus drive. The drive aims to help with the purchase of school supplies for the parents of students attending Evangeline Parish public school, as well as the educators at these schools. The purpose of this drive is to make the preparations for a new school year a little easier on parents, students and teachers alike.
“Stuff the Bus is wonderful because the school supplies that are donated help alleviate some of the burdened cost of school supplies for parents and teachers,” Ville Platte Mayor Jennifer Vidrine said. “Teachers sometimes have to use their own personal money to purchase supplies for their classroom and we would like to try and keep them from having to spend so much on classroom supplies.”
Once all donations have been collected, the supplies will be sorted through and divided up for distribution to all of the public schools in Evangeline Parish. If you are wondering how the supplies will make it to the different schools, Vidrine will be there to help handle the delivery in person.
“I will personally be delivering the supplies to each public school in the parish,” Vidrine said.
If people wish to donate items to a particular school “you can earmark which school you would like to see the supplies go to when you drop off the donation,” added Vidrine.
It is hard to miss the Evangeline Parish school bus parked outside of Ville Platte City Hall that is waiting to be filled with school supplies. The bus will remain parked there awaiting its loading down of supplies or anything else that will be beneficial for students and teachers in this upcoming school year until Friday, July 31 when the Stuff the Bus drive ends.
Supplies that are accepted for this year’s drive are: backpacks, folders, pencils/pens, crayons, markers, protractors, pencil sharpeners, calculators, paper towels, hand sanitizer, copy paper, Kleenex, stickers, tape, notebooks, glue sticks, rulers, three ring binders, tape, arts and crafts supplies, and also money or Walmart gift cards.
Mayor Vidrine asks that you “please come and show your support for the students and teachers of Evangeline Parish public schools with school supply donations.”
If you are wanting to “give Stuff the Bus some school power” Vidrine said “you can drop off all donations at the Ville Platte City Hall” between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
