After a failed attempt at holding a special meeting Tuesday evening, the Ville Platte City Council will try a second time to hold the meeting at 5 pm today.
The agenda includes items that were supposed to be considered during the regular August meeting, which was originally scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 11.
However, Mayor Jennifer Vidrine will be out of state for the regularly scheduled date. She is going to South Carolina for the Dixie Youth Majors World Series. The Ville Platte 12-year-old all-star team won the state tournament and will represent Louisiana in the World Series. The first game is Saturday at 8 pm local time against Arkansas.
Among the items on the agenda today are the adoption of millage rates for the 2015-16 tax year and setting a date for a street and drainage tax renewal.
Tuesday afternoon, before the special meeting, a public hearing was held on the millage rates. Nobody spoke at the public hearing.
Following the public hearing, the special meeting began. However, half of the Council members were absent, so there was not a quorum. Present for the meeting were Freddie Jack, Jerry Joseph, and Donald Sam. Absent for the meeting were C.J. Dardeau, Mike Perron, and Bryant Riggs.
