Magnolia Garden Club presents awards

The Garden of the Month and Civic Pride Award of Merit for August was selected by a committee from the Magnolia Garden Club. The recipient of the Garden of the Month honor was the home of Jerry and Connie Veillon, and the Civic Pride Award was presented to Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church. The Veillon residence is framed by two large live oak trees anchored by beds of caladiums and purple, pink and white impatiens. Pink crepe myrtles line the driveway. The beds surrounding the house have many plants, including loropetalum, several kinds of grasses, bottle brush, golden abelia, coleus, camellias, azaleas, agapanthus and two large magnolia trees at each corner of the house. On the front porch are two large pots of ferns inviting one to the entry or to sit a while on the white wicker furniture on the porch. The church grounds feature many large live oak trees and a well-manicured lawn. The driveway to the front door has crepe myrtle trees surrounded by beds filled with sasanqua plants, irises and agapanthus. The beds surrounding the building are planted with yellow lantana, azaleas, purple, white and red periwinkles and agapanthus. Several holy statues and white angels add to the serenity of the setting. In the first photo, the Veillons are shown with their granddaughter, Allie Veillon. In the second photo, the landscaping at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church is displayed.
