Trevor Trahan started his college career Monday but has a laser focus on his finish - graduation. The 17-year-old’s determination to have a successful welding career is unwavering and will serve him well in his studies.
“My dad and my step-mom have pushed me to succeed,” said Trevor, who attends SLCC’s C.B. Coreil Campus in Ville Platte. “They stayed on me and I’m where I’m at because of them.”
The Ville Platte High School graduate finished high school early so he could continue his welding studies. He took introductory welding courses during high school and now he’s ready to learn more.
“I want to broaden my knowledge about the different welding techniques and find the one that I like the most. I want to be the best at that,” he said.
Trevor is one of five boys in his family.
His father is unable to work because of an accident and his step-mom earns the sole income for the family. It was a bit of relief when Trevor found out he was the recipient of the American Petroleum Institute Scholarship at SLCC.
This $1,800 scholarship is helping to pay his tuition, fees, books, and welding supplies. “It’s definitely making things a lot easier for me,” he said.
