The Sacred Heart Trojans will begin the new season this Friday with a renewed since of confidence, as they take on the Eunice Bobcats in the Joe Nagata Jamboree at Bobcat Field in Eunice.
Game time is slated for right after the St.Ed’s and Notre Dame JV play.
First year head coach Josh Harper is hoping to carry the momentum gained in their scrimmage against St. Mary High School this past Friday.
“I was very pleased with how we played in the scrimmage,” said Harper. “I am excited for the future of this program. Our guys showed a tremendous effort and competitive edge that I was looking for.”
According to Harper, the Trojans were on their game offensively against St. Mary’s .
“We moved the ball well,” stated Harper. “We did what we needed to do. I was very impressed with Garrick Fontenot.”
“He had to step in at quarterback Wednesday due to an injury to Sam Tuminaro. He worked hard to learn the position in two days. I thought he played extremely well under the conditions.”
Harper also applauded the defensive unit, especially with that unit not getting the reps needed the past two few weeks.
“We had to focus on the offense because we got a late start with the players,” commented Harper. “However, I was pleasantly surprised at their performance even with the limited amount of time we have spent with them.”
Going into the jamboree against class 3A Eunice High, Harper hopes to build on the performance in the scrimmage.
“We are looking to build on what we have been doing,” said Harper. “The key is not to be satisfied and to continue to get better. One thing we definitely need to work on is our conditioning.”
