What could be thought of as a wake up call for the 4-1 Basile Bearcats, last week’s loss to a tough Port Barre squad may be just what the doctored ordered.
“You never want to lose,” stated Basile head coach Kevin Bertrand. “But, this loss may be a good thing for us. A loss like this shows us that we need to continue to work and get better. Right now I am not concerned about North Central as much as I am concerned about Basile. From now on it is about doing our jobs the right way.”
Against Port Barre, Basile was limited on the offensive side of the ball, only collecting 82 total yards of offense.
The vaunted Bearcat run game could only muster 10 yards of rushing.
“The offense put our defense in some bad positions,” said Bertrand. “The defense stayed on the field a long time this past Friday. We have to have more balance in the offense to give the defense a chance to rest. Still, we are 4-1 and have played some tough non-district games. It is a new season now and we will be working hard to win a district championship.”
Basile will travel this week to take on the North Central Hurricanes in the first district 5-1A game of the season for both clubs. North Central comes into the game 0-5 on the year. The Hurricanes are only averaging seven points per game on offense and have given up 242 total points on defense, including three games where they gave up fifty or more points.
