After another dominating performance on the ground against Westminster this past Friday, the 6-1 Basile Bearcats continue to dominate the competition in District 5-1A.
Basile rushed for 360 yards and five touchdowns this past Friday night against the Crusaders in their 33-13 win.
Bruising senior running back Gabe Fontenot collected 261 of those yards and all five scores for the Bearcats.
This does not bode well for Basile’s next opponent, the False River Gators. The Gators are 2-5 on the year and have given up an average of 29.7 points per game. Game time in Basile is set for 7 p.m.
Still, Basile head coach Kevin Bertrand is more concerned with how his team performs week to week, rather than the record of his team’s opponents.
“We have to make sure that we continue to do the things that have made us successful this year,” said Bertrand. “The execution of our players on offense and defense has to be perfect in order for us to stay on track. We always talk about us striving to improve each week and not to take steps backwards. If we can do that, win or lose, we can say that we gave everything we had.”
With a win, the Bearcats should remain in the top three in terms of playoff power rankings. Basile is currently number two in the state in terms of power rankings for non-select schools.
