Roy Lee Vercher Sr.

U.S. veteran funeral services will be held for Roy Lee Vercher Sr., 66, of Baytown, Texas, at St. Landry Baptist Church at 1 p.m., Friday, October 30. Burial with military honors will follow in the Ferguson Cemetery.
Mr. Vercher died Tuesday, October 27, 2015, at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown, Texas. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a loving father and grandfather who often expressed his pride in his family. Fishing, hunting and watching his favorite ball teams, the “Astros” and the “Houston Texans,” are things he enjoyed. He loved his job as a rigger. Many looked up to Roy and were inspired by his strong will and determination to work harder. Roy Lee Vercher Sr. was the kind of man that would give a stranger the shirt off his back. He was an honorable and generous man with a heart of gold. He left his mark on this world and will forever be remembered.
Survivors include two daughters, Tonya Hogue and her husband, Mike, of Katy, Texas, and Lea Campbell and her husband, Cody, of Turkey Creek; six sons, Jeff Vercher of Houston, Texas, Daniel Vercher and his wife, Robin, of Kingwood, Texas, Steven Vercher and his wife, Amy, of Conroe, Texas, Anthony Sharp and his wife, April, of Pine Prairie, Roy Lee Vercher Jr. and his wife, Dawn, of DeQuincy and Kelsey Vercher and his wife, Melissa, of Clearwater; three sisters, Velma Savant and her husband, Peanut, of Melville, Dollie Vercher Dupre of Saint Landry and Sandra Vercher Smith of Texas; two brothers, David Vercher Sr. and his wife, Gloria, of Oklahoma and Vernon Vercher Sr. and his wife, Lori, of Texas; and 30 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Lee Roy and Gladys Vercher; and one sister, Barbara Vercher Shabrino.
Honored to serve as pall bearers will be David Vercher Sr., David Vercher Jr., Cody Campbell, Donald Estilette Sr., Roy Perez and Steve Williams.
Visitation will be held at St. Landry Baptist Church on Friday, October 30, from 8:30 a.m. until time of service.
Rev. Wayne Holston will officiate.
