The hope of the Mamou Demons (0-8, 0-3) come Friday night is that the difficulty of their schedule will aid in getting their first win of the season as they travel to a one win DeQuincy (1-7, 0-3) squad. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
For the Demons to be successful against the Tigers, they must establish the run. Even though the past two games have not been close, Mamou has been able to run the ball somewhat effectively, collecting 446 yards on the ground.
“There is no doubt our run game is an important part of our offense,” said Demon head coach Brian Brumfield. “However, we will need to be able to throw the ball to have a chance at winning a game this season. Our freshman quarterback did a great job last week. Hopefully, we can continue to be successful in every aspect of the offense.”
DeQuincy has had flashes of offensive explosion at times, averaging 18.2 points per game. However, the Tigers have also been held to six points or less in three of their games.
Trying to hold the Tiger offense out of the end zone will be a priority for the Demons. Mamou has given up a number of points in the last two contests.
“We need to be more aggressive on defense,” stated Brumfield. “If we can hold them, I think our offense will benefit.”
The Tiger defense has also been inconsistent this season. DeQuincy gives up 40.9 points per game and has surrendered 50 or more points in four of their eight contests.
“If we can hold it together, I think we have a shot this week and next to pick up a win,” stated Brumfield. “We cannot afford any more injuries. Our kids are still fighting, which is a huge key for us.”
