MAMOU -- What looked to be a promising start for the Mamou Demons, turned out to be another loss, as the DeQuincy Tigers pulled away from the Demons in the final three periods for a 64-20 win.
With the loss Mamou falls to 0-9 on the season and will try one last time to get their first win next week, as they host the Vinton Lions.
It was DeQuincy that got on the board first in the contest. The Tigers jumped out to 15-0 lead early in the game.
The Tigers’ initial scored came on a 13-yard pass. DeQuincy made the decision to go for two and ran the ball in for the quick 8-0 lead.
DeQuincy turned around and promptly scored on a five-yard run. The extra point was good, giving the Tigers a 15-0 lead mid-way through the first quarter.
The two early scores did not deter the Demons. Mamou came storming back putting up 12 points before the quarter could end.
The Demon’s first score came on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Darius Tezeno to Lil Paul Williams.
The extra point was no good, but Mamou had now cut the lead to 15-6.
Tezeno was not done. The freshman quarterback hit Joab Perron for a 72-yard touchdown pass late in the quarter.
Mamou had now pulled to within three, 15-12, as the extra point was no good.
DeQuincy began to pull away in the second quarter, scoring twice on runs of eight and 20 yards. As the half closed, the Tigers lead 29-12.
DeQuincy opened the third quarter with a two-yard touchdown run and a two-point conversion to make the score 37-12.
Mamou made one last attempt at a comeback, scoring on another pass from Tezeno to Perron, this time from eight-yards out.
The Demons converted on the two-point conversion to put the score at 37-20.
However, it was all DeQuincy from that point on. The Tigers reeled off 27 more points in the final quarter to seal the win.
