Evangeline Parish 4-H Beef, Seafood and Sugar Cookery contest winners announced
The 2015 4-H Cotton Food Festival got off to a great start at the 21st Annual Cotton Festival 4-H Cotton Commodity Cookery Contest held Tuesday, October 20, at the Ville Platte Civic Center. Eighty-one dishes were entered in the Ground Beef, Seafood and Sugar Contests; and there were seven entries in the Ambassador Contests, which are sponsored by Evangeline Parish Cattleman’s Association, the Louisiana Cotton Festival Association, Mikey’s Donuts and the Evangeline Parish 4-H Foundation.
Parish Winners in the Beef Cookery were:
Low Calorie: Rylee Chapman, Sacred Heart Elementary fifth grade, with Mexican Chili.
One Dish Meal: Hayden Guillory, Chataignier Elementary fourth grade, with Spaghetti.
Quick and Easy Main Dish: Emily Deshotel, Vidrine Elementary sixth grade, with Baked Beef Chimichangas.
Parish winners in the Seafood Cookery were:
Crab: Ellen Deshotel, Vidrine Elementary fourth grade, with Crab Pie.
Shrimp: Mena Newman, Home School Club sixth grade, with Shrimp Mold.
Fish and Other Seafood: Linsey Ardoin, Bayou Chicot Elementary eighth grade, with Catfish Sauce.
Crawfish: Ella Ortego, Sacred Heart Elementary fifth grade, with Cajun Crawfish Dip.
Parish Winners in the Sugar Cookery were:
Baked: Sarah Butler, Bayou Chicot Elementary eighth grade, with Turtle Cheesecake Muffins;
Non-baked: Jade Alfred, Vidrine Elementary seventh grade, with Angel Strawberry Cream Cake.
The Commodity Ambassador Contest winners were:
Seafood Ambassador, Division I: Ellen Deshotel, Vidrine Elementary fourth grade, with Producing Crawfish in Louisiana; and Blue Ribbon Winner: Silas Fontenot, Sacred Heart Elementary sixth grade.

Sugar Ambassador, Division I: Gabe Fontenot, Sacred Heart Elementary fifth grade, with Sugar Production form Sugarcane;
Chicken Ambassador, Division I: Tucker Fontenot, Sacred Heart Elementary fifth grade, with Louisiana Poultry Production.
Chicken Ambassador, Division II: Andrew Fontenot, Sacred Heart Elementary seventh grade, with Understanding Labels.
Egg Ambassador, Division II: Gabrielle Fontenot, Sacred Heart High School ninth grade, with The Truth Behind the Label.
The Ground Beef, Seafood and Sugar parish winners will represent Evangeline Parish in the Regional 4-H Cookery Contests, which will be held in Crowley in March of 2016.
Commodity ambassador winners will represent Evangeline Parish in the State Contest, which will be in held in Baton Rouge in April of 2016.
