Mamou Police arrest man for imprisonment of teenage girl

The Mamou Police Department warns, “Juveniles be aware of who you text.”
The MPD responded to a call recently from Savoy Medical Center Emergency Room in reference to a 17-year-old female who had been brought into the hospital to have some injuries checked out. The young lady, who was bleeding from her face, would not talk to anyone about how she had received the injuries.
MPD Patrolman Ben Bordelon, who was on duty at the time, was dispatched to the hospital. After arriving at the hospital, Bordelon met with the female and began to ask her questions.
According to the MPD press release, the officer said the female “was in and out of awareness and at the time he (Bordelon) was unable to get any information.”
It wasn’t until one of the female’s school teachers and a family member arrived at the hospital that the young lady began to answer questions about what had happened to her.
According to the juvenile, she had mistakenly texted the wrong number one day. The number that she had texted belonged to 37-year-old Dayton McClinton of Ville Platte.
The juvenile claims that after she mistakenly texted McClinton, she then began to receive a numerous amount of text messages from the older man.
According to the MPD press release, as communication between the juvenile and McClinton continued, the “juvenile began to have complications with her cell phone.” This lead to McClinton driving to Mamou to give the juvenile a new phone.
It was dark at the time when McClinton dropped off the phone, and for that reason the juvenile said she was not able to see McClinton well enough for her to be able to tell that he was actually older than he had told her.
Communication continued between McClinton and the juvenile until, according to the MPD press release, McClinton was able to “persuade the juvenile to leave her house and meet him at the corner of South and Third St. in Mamou.”
Upon arrival at the planned meeting location, the juvenile got into McClinton’s truck and at that point was able to get a better look at him.
According to the MPD press release, once the juvenile realized that McClinton was older than what he had initially led her to believe “the juvenile did not trust him, so she left her passenger door cracked open.”
The juvenile kept asking McClinton to bring her home but he refused. This led the juvenile to jump out of the moving vehicle traveling around 15 to 20 miles an hour. McClinton never stopped after the juvenile jumped out of his truck.
The 17-year-old managed to get herself up and walk home after the incident occurred. She was later brought to the hospital by a family member.
After speaking with the cops, a warrant was issued and then executed on October 19, 2015 by Patrol Supervisor Phyllis Soileau, Juvenile Officer Katina Richard and Constable Brent Zackery. The three Mamou law enforcement officers traveled to Ville Platte, where they then met with Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies Bryan Wiles and Dylan Guidry who assisted in apprehending McClinton that same day.
McClinton was booked and charged with false imprisonment.
Currently, McClinton remains in the parish jail on a $35,000.00 bond.
