VP Rotarians present Choices program to Evangeline Parish eighth grade students
Gazette Staff Report
Ville Platte Rotary Club members presented Choices workshops to over 400 Evangeline Parish eighth graders, during the month of December. Ms. Grace Sibley joined in to introduce and welcome the presenters to the classrooms. The key lesson presented during the workshops is that decisions students make during their final years in school will impact them for the rest of their lives. Nationally, more than 7,000 high school students drop out every school day. Students learned that those who choose to drop out of high school are faced with more difficulties in their lifetimes and forfeit potential to earn more money.
The students also participated in “real world” exercises on academic self-discipline, time and money management and goal setting. Overall, Choices workshops have been well-received by both students and teachers at Ville Platte, Mamou, Bayou Chicot, Vidrine, Chataignier and Sacred Heart elementary schools.
The Ville Platte Rotary Club volunteers would like to extend their sincere gratitude for the opportunity to visit Evangeline Parish schools and meet students who are the future leaders of the community.
