Dempsey Murphy Jr.

Funeral services were held for Dempsey Murphy Jr., 81, of Mamou, at Zion Travelers Baptist Church in Mamou at 7 p.m., Sunday, December 27. Burial was held at 10 a.m., Monday, December 28, in the church cemetery.
Mr. Murphy died Saturday, December 19, 2015, at St. Landry Extended Care Hospital in Opelousas.
Survivors include his loving wife, Verlia Celestine Murphy of Mamou; three sons, Edward T. Murphy (Demetrius) of Mamou, Gerald Murphy (Julie) of Lakewood, Washington, and Sidney Murphy of Seattle, Washington; four daughters, Lynnette Murphy of Tampa, Florida, Sonya Accord (Glen) of Lakewood, Washington, Dimple Murphy of LeCompte and Sonja Wallace (Byron) of Porter, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and a host of extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dempsey Murphy Sr. and Alfreda Clay; one sister, Mary Ella Parker; one granddaughter, Jasmine Murphy; and one great-grandson, Hazyah Ward.
Pastor Allen Ben officiated.
