28-year old female dies in head-on collision in Evangeline Parish

According to a Louisiana State Police press release, “Shortly after 8:00 pm on January 9, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a two vehicle fatality crash on US 167 north of Turkey Creek in Evangeline Parish.”
Involved in the Saturday night crash were 28-year old nurse Lacey Fontenot, who is originally from Pine Prairie but was currently residing in Pineville, and 29-year old Nickolas Fontenot of Ville Platte, who is a former Ville Platte Gazette employee and now a teacher at University Academy of Central Louisiana.
According to the state police press release, while traveling northbound on US 167 Lacey’s “vehicle crossed the center line into the southbound lane of US 167 and struck Nickolas’ vehicle head on.”
The head on collision took the life of Lacey, who was pronounced dead at the scene, and, according to the press release, has caused Nickolas “serious injuries.”
According to state police, it is clear that both drivers were “unrestrained” or not wearing their seat belts, but they are not certain yet if “impairment was a factor in this crash.”
State police said, however, that “a toxicology sample will be taken from both drivers and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.”
