Gilbert Ray Deshotel

Funeral services were held for Gilbert Ray Deshotel, 81, of Ville Platte, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 11 a.m., Monday, February 22. Burial followed in the Evangeline Memorial Cemetery.
A loving and devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather, Mr. Deshotel died Friday, February 19, 2016, at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Ville Platte. He was retired from the Calcasieu Paper Mill and the city of Ville Platte. When not working hard to provide for his family, he was umpiring baseball, cooking, fishing and hunting. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Ville Platte and was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. Although he liked to “do it all,” his greatest joy was that of spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Emma Joy Deshotel of Ville Platte; and one son, Kenneth “Dizzy” Deshotel of Silsbee, Texas. Also left behind to cherish his memory are one sister, Della Manuel of Ville Platte; two grandchildren, Danielle and Courtney Deshotel; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Turley and Luda Granger Deshotel.
Father Matthew Barzare officiated.
