Collision with train in Oberlin claims life of local woman

OBERLIN – Sabrina Odom, 38, of Ville Platte died Tuesday following a train-car accident in Oberlin.
Odom’s four-door KIA was traveling west on Fifth Avenue toward Hwy. 165 when her car was struck on the passenger side by a southbound Union Pacific freight train at approximately 11:15 a.m.
Odom’s vehicle was dragged one-quarter of a mile before the train was able to stop near Third Street near Oberlin Building Supplies.
She was transported by Allen Parish Ambulance Service to Rapides General Hospital in Alexandria where she died from injuries.
“The conductor said she didn’t look up (before the crash,” Oberlin Police Chief Grady Haynes said.
Odom was the only person in the car.
A routine toxicology sample was obtained from Odom for analysis, according to Chief Haynes.
