Hundreds take part in early voting for upcoming March 5th election

More than 300 Evangeline Parish residents have taken advantage of the early voting period for the upcoming March 5, 2016 election.
As of 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, a total of 335 voters, either in person or by mail, had cast their votes for the election.
Early voting began on Saturday, February 20 and will be completed this Saturday, Feb. 27.
“That is a very low number compared to past local races,” Evangeline Parish Registrar of Voters Lucas Buller said. “The first day of early voting for the two judges races back in 2014 we had over 500 votes cast. But in the last Presidential Preference Primary election we had only 104 votes cast the first four days.”
The upcoming election will not only serve as a Presidential Preference Primary for registered Democrats and Republicans in the parish, there are also two local races for Chief of Police in Mamou and Chataignier.
For those still interested in casting their votes during this period, early voting will be conducted at the Registrar’s Office between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
