Mamou secures win; Sacred Heart falls

In action around the area, the Mamou Lady Demons secured a close district win over the Vinton Lady Lions on Monday, while the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans fell in a tight game against long time rival Opelousas Catholic on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Pine Prairie Lady Panthers continue to roll, as they crushed the Northwest Lady Raiders Tuesday.
In baseball action, the Pine Prairie Panthers came away with a huge win over Northwest on Tuesday also.
Here is a recap of those games.

Mamou vs. Vinton
The Mamou Lady Demons took to their home field Monday afternoon and came away with a hard fought eight inning 2-1 win over the Vinton Lady Lions.
With the win, Mamou improves to 4-9 on the season and 3-1 in District 4-2A.
It was a pitcher’s duel between Mamou’s Maggie Soileau and Vinton’s Amy Chenevert.
Soileau allowed only one run on four hits while striking out four.
Chenevert held Mamou to two runs on five hits and struck out two.
Mamou scored a single run in the third to go up 1-0.
The game stood that way until the top of the sixth when Vinton tied the game at 1-1.
It took until the bottom of the eighth before Mamou could plate the winning run.
Soileau and Kourtnie Deshotels were both 2-4 to lead all Lady Demons at the plate.

Sacred Heart vs. Opelousas Catholic
The Sacred Heart Lady Trojans held a 5-3 lead at the end of three innings to play, but could not hold off the Opelousas Catholic Lady Vikings in a 9-8 district loss.
Sacred Heart falls to 10-6 on the year and 0-2 in District 5-2A.
Opelousas Catholic scored five runs in their last two at bats to seal the win.
Baylee Veillon took the loss on the mound. Logan Shipp and Laura Beth Fontenot were each 2-4 at the plate to lead the Lady Trojans.

Pine Prairie vs. Northwest
The Lady Panthers scored 23 runs in two innings to take a 23-0 win over the Northwest Lady Raiders in a run rule district win.
Pine Prairie is now 17-0 on the season.
Jacie McFarlain picked up three hits, including two home runs to lead the Lady Panthers at the dish.

Pine Prairie vs. Northwest
The Pine Prairie Panther baseball team scored seven runs in the bottom of the third inning en route to a 13-2 run-rule win over the Northwest Raiders Tuesday afternoon.
Pine Prairie is now 9-4 on the season and 1-0 in District 5-3A.
Josh Fontenot picked up the win for Pine Prairie, allowing two runs on six hits and struck out six.
Dylan Doucet went 3-4 with a double and scored four times in the win.
