The Mamou Demon baseball team has found a groove this season and is poised to move forward into district competition and beyond.
A lot of their success has come at the hands of senior Dylan Duplechain.
For the past four seasons, Duplechain has helped guide the Demons progress on the field; both at the plate and on the mound.
Last year Duplechain batted .309 and had a .691 slugging percentage. He recorded 10 doubles and seven home runs while driving in 18 RBI.
All of Duplechain’s hard work has paid off, as he recently signed with Mississippi College to continue playing the game he loves.
“I am really excited to be able to continue playing ball after high school,” said Duplechain. “I am looking forward to the experience. It felt comfortable to me and it is not very far, which is going to allow my parents and brothers a chance to come see me play.”
Mississippi College head coach Jeremy Haworth really liked what he saw in Duplechain.
“Dylan has the strength and athleticism to hit near the middle of our order,” stated Haworth. “ He is a tireless worker not only in the field but at the plate. What impressed me the most was his tenacity and feel for the game. We’re thrilled to have him come and believe in our program.”
Duplechain felt at ease with the coaches and the players when he went for his personal tryout.
“I am still in contact with the coaches and some of the players,” commented Duplechain. “They are all very receptive and the campus has that home town feel.”
Even with all the excitement about his future in college baseball, Duplechain still knows that there is work to be done now in order for the Demons to continue forward.
“Right now I am just focused on the season ahead of us,” said Duplechain. “I want this to be a great year.”
