Opening ceremonies on tap for Saturday

The opening ceremonies for both Dixie Youth and the Ville Platte Girls Softball Association will be held this Saturday at the Evangeline Parish Recreation Complex.
The annual event will include games for both organizations, as well as introductions of all the members of the teams participating this season as well as the first pitches being thrown out. The actual ceremonies are slated to run from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
Here is schedule of the games to be played:

Dixie Youth
9 a.m- T-ball: Dots vs. Falcons; Pitching machine: Giants vs. Cubs.
10 a.m.- T-ball: Aces vs. Elks; Pitching Machine: Aces vs. Bees
11 a.m.- T-ball: Bees vs. Cubs; Pitching Machine: Dots vs. Giants.
2 p.m.- Minors- Elks vs. Dots; Majors: Hawks vs. Giants
3 p.m.- Minors: Aces vs. Elks
4 p.m.- Minors: Bees vs. Cubs; Majors: Falcons vs. Elks

VPGSA
10 a.m.- T-ball: Butterflies vs. Grasshoppers; Fireflies vs. Lovebugs.
11 a.m.- T-ball: Dragonflies vs. Honeybees; Ladybugs vs. Crickets.
1:30 p.m.- 8 yr. olds: Pups vs. Chicks; 10 yr. olds: Hurricanes vs. Lightning.
2:30 p.m.- 8 yr. olds: Kits vs. Fawns.
2:40 p.m.- 10 yr. olds: Blizzard vs. Eclipse
3:30 p.m.- 8 yr. olds: Pups vs. Bunnies
3:50 p.m.- 10 yr. olds: Hurricanes vs. Thunder

Fontenot receives honor
McNeese State baseball senior right-hander Kaleb Fontenot picked up his third consecutive weekly award as he was chosen the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Pitcher of the Week after continuing his record-setting consecutive scoreless inning streak over the weekend, the organization announced Monday evening.
The award is the fourth for Fontenot this season after being named Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week the last two weeks as well as College Sports Madness Player of the Week.
Fontenot continued his mastery on the mound by setting a school record of 28 consecutive shutout innings in a 10.0 inning no decision Friday. The Ville Platte native cemented his place in the Southland Conference record books with the third longest consecutive scoreless inning streak.
