Sacred Heart Trojans, Lady Trojans drop key contests

The Sacred Heart Trojan baseball team and the Lady Trojan softball team both took key losses this past week.
For the Trojans, a Thursday one-run loss to Notre Dame put Sacred Heart at 0-2 early in the district season.
The Lady Trojans fell to Iota in a non-district contest on Wednesday, killing any chance for those every important power points for playoff ranking.
Here is a rundown of games played around the parish this week.
Sacred Heart
vs. Notre Dame
It was another gut-wrenching loss for Sacred Heart Thursday afternoon in Crowley, as the Notre Dame Pioneers engineered a two run seventh inning to defeat the Trojans 7-6 in a District 5-2A contest.
Sacred Heart jumped out on top in the top of the first inning by scoring three runs. Two of those runs came via a double by Nick LaHaye with two outs.
Notre Dame responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first to cut the lead to 3-2.
The two teams exchanged runs in the second inning. Sacred Heart took a two run lead in the top of the fourth when they plated a single run.
The Pioneers tied the game up by adding lone runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings respectfully.
Sacred Heart regained the lead in the top of the seventh when Garrick Fontenot scored on a single off of the bat of Jacob L. Lafleur.
Unfortunately, the Trojans could not hold the lead, as Notre Dame’s Nick Hanks hit a two-run home run over the left field fence to end the game.
With the loss, Sacred Heart falls to 10-8-1 on the year.
Sacred Heart vs. Iota
The Lady Trojans took to the field Wednesday afternoon for a non-district battle against the Iota Lady Bulldogs.
Sacred Heart scored two runs in the top of the seventh, but it was not enough, as the Lady Bulldogs pulled off the 6-3 win over the Lady Trojans.
Sacred Heart owned a 1-0 lead after one inning of play when Caroline Fontenot scored on a double off of the bat of Sydney Fontenot.
Iota stormed back, plating two runs in the bottom of the second and three runs in the bottom of the third to go up 5-1.
The Lady Bulldogs extended their lead to 6-1, scoring a single run in the bottom of the fourth.
The Lady Trojans tried to mount a comeback in the top of the seventh, but could not sustain any momentum.
Sacred Heart falls to 12-10 on the season with the loss and is scheduled to play Bolton on Monday at home.
Pine Prairie
vs. Church Point
In a key district game, the Lady Panthers struggled at the plate, picking up only two hits in a 2-1 loss to the Lady Bears on Wednesday.
With the loss, Pine Prairie is now tied with Church Point in the district standings and will await the result of the Church Point/Port Barre game that was scheduled for Thursday.
Mamou vs. DeQuincy
The Mamou Lady Demons suffered another district loss, this time at the hands of the DeQuincy Lady Tigers Tuesday afternoon, as DeQuincy took the 11-4 win.
Mamou gave up multiple runs to DeQuincy in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings in the loss.
The Lady Demons plated one run in the third, two in the fourth and one in the seventh.
Mamou was lead at the plate by Lauren Soileau who was two for four with a double and a run batted in.
Mamou falls to 6-11 on the season and 5-3 in District 4-2A play.
