The only way to describe the last three district games for the Sacred Heart Trojans is: UNBELIEVABLE!!!
Sacred Heart has had the misfortune of losing all three of those games by one run each. Tuesday afternoon was one of those contests that you just shake your head about, as the Trojans fell to Notre Dame 1-0 in another heartbreaker.
This coming off of a 3-2 loss to Opelousas Catholic last Wednesday and a 7-6 loss to Notre Dame last Thursday.
With this latest setback, Sacred Heart is now 11-9-1 on the season and 0-3 in district play.
How do you explain this phenomenon of events that have taken place over the last week?
According to Sacred Heart head coach Cody Vidrine, it is not because of a drop off of intensity from his club.
“We have been playing our hearts out the last three district games,” said Vidrine. “Our kids have shown up and played with a lot of emotion and desire. I think it is just a lack of execution at the right times in the game. We have had our opportunities to capitalize in crucial situations during the course of the last three games; we just have not made the plays in those instances. We are just going to have to make sure that when given those opportunities, we have to make plays. It is just frustrating.”
This was true Tuesday against Notre Dame, as the Trojans had runners in scoring position in four of the seven at bats during the course of the game.
Notre Dame scored their lone run in the top of the first inning, as Thomas Stevens crossed the plate on a single off of the bat of Jacob Vicknair. It was the only run needed for the win.
The Trojans made an attempt to tie the game several times, including putting runners on second and third in the bottom of the first and the bottom of the sixth. But, Notre Dame worked their way out of the jam each time.
Sacred Heart was scheduled to play Ville Platte High on Wednesday, weather permitting. The Trojans next district contest is today, as they travel to face off against Opelousas Catholic.
