Melvin Joseph Fontenot

Funeral services were held for Melvin Joseph Fontenot, 92, of Ville Platte, at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 3 p.m., Tuesday, April 19. Burial followed in the Evangeline Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Fontenot died Saturday, April 16, 2016, at The Carpenter House in Lafayette. He was a native of Point Blue, and was a resident of Ville Platte for most of his life. He was a veteran of the military, proudly serving in the United States Army during World War II. He worked as an instrument mechanic for the Cabot Corporation in Ville Platte for over 30 years. He was a past member of the Woodmen of the World and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed camping, visiting with friends, going to the casino and spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Jessie Rene L. Fontenot of Ville Platte; his children, Martha Jonetta F. Thompson and her husband, David, Francis K. Fontenot, Charlotte F. Savoy and her husband, Arthur, and Joe Fontenot and his wife, Sue, all of Lafayette; four step-children, Billie Jean Vidrine and Kevin McDaniel and his wife, Jamie, all of Ville Platte, Keith McDaniel and his wife, Coopey, of Eunice and Benjie Gaspard and her husband, Mike, of Quitman; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one brother, Dalbis Fontenot of Ville Platte.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Savio Fontenot and Ella McGee Fontenot; his first wife, Barbara “Butch” Deshotels Fontenot; one brother, Ezema Fontenot; and two sisters, Earline Fontenot and Betty F. Sylvester.
The family would like to give special thanks to The Carpenter House for their kindness, compassion and devoted care to Melvin and his family during their time of need.
