Panthers pick up win over Northwest

The Pine Prairie High baseball team was back in district action Tuesday afternoon taking on the Northwest Raiders in an ever important contest.
The Panthers needed a win to improve on their power ranking before the playoffs are announced this weekend.
Here is a recap of that game.

Pine Prairie left no doubt about their push for the playoffs as they secured a 9-0 victory over the Northwest Raiders.
With the win the Panthers are now 12-9 on the year and 4-4 in District 5-3A. They were scheduled to play Ville Platte this past Friday and Eunice on Saturday, weather permitting to finish out the season.
Against Northwest, the Panthers wasted no time in establishing their dominance, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
The big hit coming off of the bat of Josh Fontenot, as he stroked a two-run triple into the gap.
Pine Prairie added single runs in the third and fourth innings to extend their lead to 5-0.
The big inning for the Panthers came in the fifth, as Pine Prairie batted around and plated four runs on one hit and six walks.
Dylan Doucet led all Panthers at the plate going 2-for-3 with a double and a single.
Fontenot picked up the win for Pine Prairie.

The 2016 LHSAA baseball playoff pairings will be announced today.
Three area teams, Sacred Heart, Pine Prairie and Mamou will find out who and where they play after the announcement.
First round games will be played tomorrow or Tuesday. The Gazette will have full coverage in Thursday’s edition.
