KILGORE, Texas - Funeral services will be held for Winnie Tate Nicks, 84, of Kilgore, Texas, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Kilgore, Texas, at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 7. Burial will follow in the Lakeview Mausoleum.
A native of Ville Platte, Ms. Nicks died Tuesday, May 3, 2016, in Kilgore, Texas. She born on July 2, 1931, in Ville Platte, the daughter of the late William and Aliene Tate. She attended Sacred Heart High School in Ville Platte and Spencer Business College. She was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Roy H. Laird Auxiliary and volunteered with the East Texas Treatment Center and Kilgore Chamber of Commerce. Her family will always remember her as a loving mother, grandmother and friend.
Survivors include three children and their spouses, Bill and Judy Nicks, Christine and Steve Hancock and Jerry and Barbara Nicks, all of Kilgore, Texas; one brother, John Wallace Tate of Ville Platte; grandchildren, Kim and Paul Kirkland, Emily Nicks and Katie Tavey, Joshua Hancock, Tate Nicks and Eli Nicks; and great-grandchildren, Caelyn Pilette, Kaden Kirkland and Luka Tavey-Nicks.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 53 years, Clyde William Nicks; three sisters; and three brothers.
The family will receive friends at the Rader Funeral Home of Kilgore, Texas, between 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Friday evening, May 6.
The family would like to give a special thank you to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and all of the caregivers who took care of Mrs. Nicks these past months.
