EPSO makes arrest for outstanding warrant; MPD involved in pursuit

On Monday, May 2, 2016, Evangeline Parish deputies arrested Jason Brent Soileau on an outstanding warrant.
According to an EPSO press release, “an affidavit and warrant of arrest for having dogs at large and no proof of vaccination was authored on Soileau, and later signed by 13th Judicial Judge Gary Ortego” following an incident that took place on October 29, 2015.
The release stated that, “Soileau failed to maintain control of his pitbull, in which the dog left his presence and ended up biting a female juvenile in the neighborhood while walking down the street.”
After biting the juvenile, “the dog then turned towards the juvenile’s sibling in a manner to attack her prior to the owner Jason Brent Soileau calling the dog back to the area in which it left from.”
Following the incident, the release stated that “Soileau was wanted for questioning,” but “EPSO Investigators were unable to make contact with Soileau.”
As investigations continued, the EPSO learned “that Soileau had left the State of Louisiana.” He was believed to have been in Alabama.
It was while responding to a call concerning a disturbance on Monday, “deputies were able to apprehend and detain Soileau.”
After being booked into the parish jail, Soileau was released on bail.

Mamou Police arrest man after pursuit
The Mamou Police Department arrested Gideon Joseph, of Mamou, after what should have been a routine traffic stop turned into a pursuit on May 13, 2016.
After observing Joseph run a stop sign last Friday night, the Town of Mamou’s police chief Brent Zackery attempted to pull the driver over.
According to the MPD, “the driver did not stop, and ended up running two more stop signs in the town during the pursuit.”
As the pursuit continued onto Poinciana Avenue, where the driver was traveling at a speed of 86-miles per hours, and then out of the town’s limits, Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Louisiana State Police were called in for back-up.
A road-block was set up on Pine Point Rd., and although Joseph attempted to make his way around the road-block, he was unsuccessful, which ultimately led to law enforcement officers being able to arrest the Mamou man.
Joseph was booked into the MPD jail for running three stop signs, driving left of center, open container, suspended affidavit, reckless operation, and aggravated flight from an officer.
Since his arrest, Joseph has been transported to the parish jail.
