A memorial service will be held for Joseph Floyd Fontenot, 91, of Ville Platte, at the Ardoin’s Funeral Home Chapel in Ville Platte at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 28. Visitation will be held from 12 noon until time of service on Saturday.
A native of Reddell, Mr. Fontenot died Thursday, May 19, 2016, at Savoy Medical Center in Mamou. He was a veteran of World War II, having proudly served in the United States Army. He was also a State Trooper at Troop K and served as Governor Edwin Edwards’ body guard for eight years.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Majorie Manuel Fontenot of Ville Platte; two sons, Brian Gibsons Fontenot and his wife, Maxine, of Bayou Chicot and Charles Kirk Fontenot of Ville Platte; one brother, Webster Manuel of Brownsville, Texas; one sister, Georgiana Manuel of Oakdale; and six grandchildren, Elijah Fontenot, Carly Rushing, Marla Rushing, Jake Rushing, Joseph Fontenot and Linzy Bertrand.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Jewel and Elvina Fontenot; and one grandchild, Gabriel Fontenot.
