For only the second time in the last five games, the LSU rally opposum failed to come through, as the Tigers bowed out of the SEC Tournament, losing to Florida in the semi-finals 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
However, with a 14-2 record since May 6, LSU has cemented themselves as the number eight overall seed in the NCAA Division I championship tournament.
LSU will host a regional tournament beginning on Friday, as they host Utah Valley at 2 p.m.
The other two teams in the Baton Rouge regional are Rice and Southeastern Louisiana.
LSU took the unfamilar role of having to open up SEC tourney play on Tuesday, having to face Tennessee.
The Tigers had to use some of that rally opposum magic, getting the win only after Greg Deichman and Kramer Robertson showed their ninth inning heroics, pushing LSU past the Vols 5-4.
The Tigers then faced off against No. 1 Florida in what turned out to be a 14-inning marathon.
LSU pinch hitter Jordan Romero lined an RBI single in the top of the 14th inning Thursday morning to provide the winning run.
On Friday, LSU did not have the dramatics they faced in the first two contests against Mississippi St.
LSU junior left-hander Jared Poche’ limited top-ranked Mississippi State to one earned in run in 6.2 innings Thursday night , and sophomore catcher Michael Papierski produced three RBI to lead the seventh-ranked Tigers to a 6-2 win over the Bulldogs.
But, luck and run production ran out on the Tigers on Satruday against the Gators in the semi-finals.
Florida was aided by sophomore left-hander Scott Moss, who fired six shutout innings against the Tigers. Moss limited LSU to no runs on three hits in six innings.
