Catholic Daughters hold monthly meeting

Gazette Staff Report

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Sacred Heart of Jesus Court #1674, held its monthly meeting on Wednesday, June 1, in the Sacred Heart Elementary School science lab, with Regent Barbara Delafosse presiding. The meetings are always opened with prayers for the sick of the community and the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.
The minutes of the May meeting were read and approved. A budget meeting will be held on June 20, at 5:15 p.m. in the science lab. During the meeting, the charities supported by the court, as well as any other items of interest, will be discussed.
The Catholic Daughters court will select a scholarship committee to make guidelines for the court’s two new awards/scholarships, which will be given to two Sacred Heart High School seniors.
Committees also were formed to purchase, prepare, collect tickets, arrange prizes and other activities to prepare for the salad-bingo fund raiser, which will be held Tuesday, June 7, at the Northside Civic Center. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased by calling Delafosse at 224-7795. This is the only fund raiser held by the Catholic Daughters each year. Through the funds raised, the court provides activities for Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Evangeline ARC, Faith House, host a French retreat, host a Christmas toy drive and provide food baskets for needy families.
The meeting was closed with a prayer and then many members went out to dinner together.
