Believe it or not, but it is all-star season once again for Dixie Youth and the Ville Platte Girls Softball Association organizations.
This year, the designated all-star teams are looking to make a splash and follow the success of past all-star teams from Ville Platte.
For the Dixie Youth all-stars, tournament play begins this Thursday when the T-Ball all-stars, lead by head coach Nick Fontenot, will participate in the sub-district tournament in Ville Platte.
Also beginning play Thursday will be the Pitching Machine all-stars, along with head coach Ross Duos, as they take part in sub-district play in Oakdale.
The Super 10 all-stars will travel to Pine Prairie to begin sub-district play on June 16. Head coach for the 10-year-old team is John Pitre.
The Dixie Majors (12-year-olds) start play the following week, June 23, as head coach Delaney Fontenot takes his team to Leesville for sub-district.
The state T-Ball tournament will be held on July 7-10 here in Ville Platte.
District for the Pitching Machine all-stars will be on June 23, followed by the state tourney on July 7.
The Super 10’s follow sub-district with the district tourney on June 30 and then move on to regional play on July 15.
The Dixie Majors will participate in district beginning on July 1. The regional tournament is set for July 15.
If the Majors and the Super 10’s advance to state, they will both play in Alexandria on July 22 and 23.
For the VPGSA all-stars, most of their all-star teams began play on Friday where the 10-year-old, eight-year old and seven-year old teams travelled to Scott for a warm-up tournament.
The 10-year-old all-stars are lead by head coach Shane Darbonne, with the eight-year-old team being headed up by Jason Fontenot. The seven-year-old all-stars are lead by head coach Todd Ardoin.
These same groups will travel to Rayne on June 10 and to Gonzalez on June 17 for two more warm-up tournaments. They will be joined in Gonzalez by the six-year-old all-stars and head coach Sunny LaHaye.
The sectional tournament for all age groups will be on June 24 in Ville Platte, while the regional tournament will take place beginning on July 1 in Crowley.
