Brookshire’s opens store in Mamou

MAMOU — An empty grocery store building in Mamou has made a spring back to life as the latest Brookshire Grocery Company Spring Market in the state.
The store opened August 20, and the grand opening was at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning. The store is located at 1445 Old Highway 13, and the store was previously the location of a Wal-mart Neighborhood Market.
Brad Brookshire, chairman of board and CEO of Brookshire Grocery Company, said, “This is an exciting day for our company. Our company was started by my grandfather, whose picture is up on the wall up there, 88 years ago in a small town in east Texas, in a small store. This is our fourteenth one to open. We bought 25 of them from Walmart, and it is a new concept for us.”
He continued, “These have been great stores. For a small store like this, there is a lot of variety in it. Our pricing is Walmart-sharp pricing, and we have great people. We have been in business for 88 years, and it’s because we have great people. Brendan and his staff, I know they will do a great job for the Town of Mamou.
Brookshire said being a community partner has always been important for the company, and that concept is important to the company and what it stands for.
“We are going to be here for a long time,” Brookshire said.
“I’m going to hold you to that,” Mamou Mayor Ricky Fontenot said, laughing.
The name “Spring Market” comes from the company’s first store on Spring Avenue in Tyler, Texas, which opened in 1928.
Several members of the company, including members of the company’s district staff, attended the event, as well as Mamou council members Leisa Deshotel and Charlie Reed.
Store Director Brendan Tauzin and Fontenot cut the ribbon during the grand opening ceremony.
“We are excited ya’ll are here,” Fontenot said. “Thank you for providing jobs and groceries at good prices.”
“We are happy to be here and excited to get open,” Tauzin said. “I have been chomping at the bit to finally get open.”
Tauzin continued, “Shoppers at Spring Market in Mamou will find very competitive prices on the products they need along with outstanding customer service. We are looking forward to becoming actively involved in the local community and are very excited to open Spring Market here in Mamou.”
