PINE PRAIRIE -- After a huge opening game win, the Pine Prairie Panthers were hoping to secure their second win of the season as they hosted Beau Chene here Friday night.
But, it was not meant to be as the Gators crawled away with an impressive 29-0 win over the Panthers.
“We just came out flat,” said Panther head coach Yves Prince. “After that big win last week, I thought that we were maturing. But, it looks like our youth still has not shown through just yet. We are going to have to bounce back from this and continue to make progress. There are a lot of games left on the schedule that we can win. It is just a matter of us playing with the same intensity all of the time.”
The Panther offense that came alive in their fourth quarter come from behind against Bunkie last week was practically non-existent against the Gators. Pine Prairie only had 71 total yards in the game, all of those coming on the ground. Also, the Panthers could manage a meager five first downs.
On the flip side, Beau Chene totaled 362 yards, with 340 of those coming on the ground. The Gators had a whopping 20 first downs in the game.
It did not take long for Beau Chene to get on the board. The Gators took started the opening drive from their 27-yard line. Nine plays and five minutes and 14 seconds later, Deontre Eaglin punched it in from 10 yards out. The extra point from Morgan James was good and Beau Chene held a 7-0 lead with 2:48 left in the first quarter.
The Gators scored two more times in the second quarter. Their first score came on a 12 yard run from Markaylin Milburn with only 1:56 taken off the second quarter clock. James added the point after and Beau Chene was up 14-0.
Just 1:27 seconds later, Eaglin hit pay dirt from 11 yards out, after Beau Chene recoverd a fumbled kick off return. This time the kick was no good and the Gators led 20-0 at the half.
Beau Chene added another two scores in the third quarter; a 31 yard gallop by Eaglin and a four yard run by Khalil Brown. James was one for two on extra points in the quarter and the Gators had extended their lead to 33-0.
The final touchdown came late in the fourth quarter with the game out of reach.
