Where do you turn after starting the season 0-5?
For head coach Brian Brumfield and the Mamou Demons, you continue to work on giving the best effort you can and hopefully the pieces of the puzzle will fit for once this year.
“All we can do is keep playing hard,” stated Brumfield. “We just need to find a game where we put every phase of the game together. When we can do that, I know we have a great chance of getting that win.”
Mamou is coming off of another disappointing loss, this time to the Oakdale Warriors. In the game the Demons could only manage 182 yards of total offense, while giving up 336 yards to the Warriors. And, on top of that, Mamou once again gave up multiple turnovers, resulting in touchdowns from their opponent.
“We continue to give up touchdowns with turnovers,” said Brumfield. “It has been a problem that we just cannot seem to solve. If we don’t figure out a way to not give up free points to other teams, we cannot be successful.”
The Demons will look to complete the puzzle and pick up their first win of the season tomorrow night as they travel to take on the 3-2 Lake Arthur Tigers. Lake Arthur comes into the first District 4-2A game for both teams averaging 36 points per game, but have given up 25 points per game, including 56 to Jennings this past Friday.
“Lake Arthur will be another tough test for us,” commented Brumfield. “Defensively, we will need to try and put them in difficult down and distances. Offensively, we have to establish our running game in order to control the ball and keep it away from them.”
