The loss to Northwest High this past Friday was not a shocking revelation for Pine Prairie, simply because the Raiders are one of the top teams in Class 3A. However, the way in which the 41-0 loss occurred was not how the script was supposed to be written.
In the game, the Panthers attacked on offense and put together some game changing drives in the first half, only to see those drives end in devastating turnovers, including fumbling inside the Northwest five-yard line.
Pine Prairie now must find some valuable wins down the final stretch of the season if they expect to be part of the Class 3A playoffs come the second weekend in November.
The next challenge comes tomorrow night, as the Panthers will travel to Church Point High to take on the Bears. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
“If we want to be in the post-season, we have to find a way to get a couple of more wins in district,” said Prince. “That means that we cannot give away points to any of the teams left on the schedule.”
Church Point enters the game with an un-Bear like 1-5 record with their only win coming in a 34-6 victory over Port Barre this past Friday. However, the Bears did face some stiff non-district competition, losing to four teams with five wins or better this season.
“Church Point is probably the best 1-5 team around the area,” commented Prince. “They are a typical Church Point team. They are going to run the Wing-T to perfection and play tough defense.”
