At Tuesday night’s Evangeline Parish Fire District #2 meeting the board discussed issues they are having with 9-1-1’s dispatching service.
The board’s chairman Danny McDaniel said, “We are not getting dispatched at the Faubourg station.”
McDaniel went on to say that on Monday “the captain on scene called for equipment and it was not paged.”
In response to McDaniel’s comments, Ville Platte Fire Chief Chris Harrison said, “We spoke to Liz Hill and they asked me to give them time.”
9-1-1 began dispatching for the fire district after the district entered into an intergovernmental agreement with 9-1-1 back in April of 2016.
The next step that the fire district intends to take to make sure that all dispatching is done properly is to go and speak with the Chairman of the Evangeline Parish 9-1-1-OEP Board.
EP Fire District #2 Board Member Shawn Devillier said, “We did make a decision to go talk to Pat Derouselle to see what we can do to better this situation.”
Also discussed at the meeting was the possibility of getting shirts for all of the firemen in the district.
Devillier said, “Some guys in the district asked me if we could get t-shirts with the fire district #2 logo on them, and I told them that I would bring it up at a board meeting to see what the board thought about this.”
All board members were in favor of this idea.
Board member Ted Demoruelle said, “I think that’s a great idea, and I think we should also get collared shirts for each of the board members.”
The board decided to have the district’s logo printed on the back of all of the shirts and have the name of the station that each fireman works at on the front.
During the meeting the board also chose to change the date of their next meeting, which falls on the same day as the Presidential Election. The meeting was moved from Tuesday, November 8th, to Monday, November 7th at 6:00 p.m.
Other items discussed the meeting were:
Approval of the permit received from the State to put a culvert at the Belaire Cove Fire Station.
Accept the bid of $10,880 from Thomas Construction Company to do the piping for the culvert at the Belaire Cove Fire Station.
