Civil Service Board OKs creation of fire position

The Ville Platte Fire and Police Civil Service Board held a public hearing on Monday before approving a new position for the Ville Platte Fire Department.
With no one from the public at the hearing, the creation of this new position, which has been titled fire training and safety officer, was passed by the board unanimously.
The duties of this position will consist of managing the training and safety programs for the fire department.
To do this, the fire training and safety officer will be required to evaluate the performance of department employees during training and at emergency scenes, maintain records of training activities for the department, and ensure compliance with departmental safety policies.
This officer will report to and have their work reviewed by Ville Platte Fire Chief Chris Harrison or a superior officer designated by the chief.
Anyone that meets the qualification requirements, which consist of meeting all requirements of the Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Law, have passed a physical examination, and possess either a high school diploma, equivalency certificate, or an associate’s or bachelor’s degree, may apply for the position.
A portion of the salary for this officer will be paid for by the City of Ville Platte, while the other portion will be paid by the Evangeline Parish Fire District #2.
