Janice Fontenot expressed her short-term and long-term plans for Troupe de Evageline at Wednesday’s meeting of the Ville Platte Chamber of Commerce.
“We want to become a place where art is displayed in many forms,” Fontenot said. “We also would like to take it on the road.”
Fontenot, who served as the Chamber’s guest speaker, talked about the group’s mission of providing education and entertainment in an artistic fashion to the public, how the group is looking to find a permanent home for productions and did get the word out to locals about the group.
“We want to get the word out about what we do,” Fontenot said. “A lot of people don’t know about our theatre.”
The group’s next performance is “All the King’s Women,” about 17 women obessed with Elvis Presley, and it will be held at the Ville Platte Civic Center. Tickets are $10 for the shows on October 28-29 at 7 p.m. and for Sunday, October 30 at 2 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce and at Kim’s Total Image.
Fontenot also said that they are always looking for people to take part in their productions, even if they have no aspirations to be on stage.
“There are some pople that don’t care to be on stage,” Fontenot said. “That is fine. We need all types of people and talent of all ages in different areas behind the scenes.”
Susan Fisher with St. Landry-Evangeline United Way also took time to inform the Chamber on the upcoming BOOgie Ball that will be held on Saturday, October 29 at 7 p.m. at The Delta Grand in Opelousas.
The proceeds from the event, which features a silent auction, music by Lil’ Kenny & The Heartbreakers, dinner ,, etc., will go to the United Way to aid in disasters.
